7. Seeing Jesus in Daniel

What year is it? Depends who you ask! You may have seen in the news that last Thursday, Chinese people around the world celebrated the beginning of a New Year, the “Year of the Goat”. Now it may seem a little strange to us that in China, New Years would be celebrated in the middle of February, but actually they have been using their traditional calendar system for at least the last 3,500 years, much longer than our Gregorian calendar, which was 1st introduced in Europe in 1582. Actually the Chinese calendar has a lot of similarities to the Hebrew calendar found in the OT, because they are both lunar calendars – the length of each month is always 29 days – the time it takes for the moon to c

6. Jesus in Isaiah

As a teenager growing up in the late 60’s, I found that I had a problem with the Bible. Even though my parents had taken me to SS & church every Sunday as I was growing up, by the time I was 15 or 16, I had become convinced that the Bible was just a book of ancient mythology and no longer relevant in our modern world. And I had come to this conclusion in spite of the fact that I hadn’t actually read very much of it for myself. Basically my attitude towards the Bible at that time was: “Why would I believe something that was written thousands of years ago by nomadic tribesmen in the Middle East?” I assumed that most of the Bible, especially the OT, was made up of fanciful stories and legends t

5. Jesus the Son of David

He was born into a poor farming family, the youngest of 8 sons. He grew up in the country, and spent much of his youth looking after his fathers' livestock. Among other things he was an accomplished musician + poet, and he rose to be a great military leader and king of a poweful nation. His name of course, is David, and he is the focus of our attention this morning as we continue in our series “SJOT” As we begin, let’s try to connect David to what we have already looked at so far in this study. A few Sundays ago, we started in Genesis: Jesus as Creator & Redeemer. Then we saw how Abraham received God’s promise that, one day thru his offspring Jesus, all the peoples of the world would be bles

4. Seeing Jesus in the Tabernacle

Exodus 40:1-8 Then the LORD said to Moses: "Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month. Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. Exodus
